H3M Environmental Ltd. is seeking an experienced and motivated Intermediate Environmental Professional to work as part of the Remediation / Reclamation team, in the management and execution of environmental assessments, contaminated site remediation, surface reclamation and monitoring projects for clients throughout Western Canada. The qualified candidate will play a very important role in our continued growth and portfolio diversification.

The Intermediate Environmental Professional / Environmental Scientist will be responsible for coordinating the safe completion of field programs. This position is based both in the office and the field and involves up to 75% of field work component. The ideal candidate will provide outstanding field coordination skills with focus on field planning and resource management, as well as provide guidance, and mentorship to junior, and entry level staff.

The work requires technical knowledge of the areas of soil science, contaminated site remediation techniques, development of reclamation plans, groundwater sampling and monitoring, as well as the use and interpretation of provincial regulatory requirements and guidelines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and executing assessments, leading field crews, writing and reviewing technical reports and communicating with field consultants and subcontractors. The main focus of this position is reclamation and remediation; however, there will be the opportunity to be involved in pre-construction and planning projects as well.

Role and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead various environmental assessments including, but not limited to:
    • Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment;
    • Supervise remediation of contaminated sites;
    • Installation and monitoring of groundwater monitoring wells;
    • Spill Response;
    • Pre and Post Construction Site Assessments;
  • Review field data and provide initial interpretations to make field-related decisions
  • Work with Project Manager to ensure delivery of high-quality products including developing work plans, budgets and schedule management;
  • Lead and execute various remediation and reclamation work, including Phase I and II ESAs, liability assessments, remediation, and reclamation supervision.;
  • Prepare quality scientific and technical reports, including Phase I and II ESA reports, remediation, and reclamation plans, pre and post construction reporting, mitigation plans, etc.;
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior environmental staff on assessment, reclamation, remediation, and monitoring projects;

Qualifications:

  • University degree or technical diploma in an environmental discipline (e.g. environmental science, environmental engineering, geography, earth science, biology, or soil/reclamation science);
  • 3-5 years of environmental experience within the upstream oil and gas industry;
  • Experienced and knowledgeable of Alberta regulations and guidelines as they pertain to remediation and reclamation.
  • Effective leadership skills (leading by example, mentorship, collaboration, etc.);
  • Strong ability to conduct field assessments and collect/manage large amounts of data;
  • Accurate cost tracking and forecasting skills;
  • Strong technical writing skills with attention to detail; and,
  • Member or eligible for membership with an environmentally related professional association (eg. P.Ag, ASct, R.P.F, R.P.Bio, P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Chem, etc.) would be beneficial.
